For those familiar only with the B.B. King as the biggest star of the blues genre, this set will provide a clear view of his beginnings, starting with the first recordings he made for the Bihari brothers' RPM and Kent labels. You can listen to the youthful energy and power, even on the first Memphis sides. The influence of Roy Brown is there, but B.B. quickly finds his own voice and has hit after hit. The main complaint about these early recordings has always been with the recording quality. The remastering, by Jerry Peterson, has changed all that. The sound is as clear as you will ever hear it. Great notes and photos, even one of B.B. with Joe Bihari and Los Angeles disc jockey Hunter Hancock!
